I am not immune…

Ignite Life this week is one that is going to give us all bit of a reality check. In this day of worshipping celebrities for being famous I think that we need to take a step back look around us and appreciate the heroes that surround us everyday. That is what this week is all about.

I believe words like inspiring and hero are over used but I want to draw your attention to these wonderful people that are definitely worthy of these titles.

During the next school holidays, Michelle and Marty Roberts and their fabulous riders will be doing Cycle 4 Sam 5 in honour of their son Sam Roberts. They will be riding over a 1000kms to raise funds for Paediatric Palliative Care. Their efforts are nothing short of amazing and it really does show how much we can all make a difference. It not just about the money, it is about the care, love and support of others that really gets me, especially when I witness firsthand the impact of their efforts.

I am so honoured to be able to facilitate art therapy because of Cycle 4 Sam. Due to confidentiality, I can’t give you specific examples of how it helps but lets just say it is remarkable that the Roberts family and their community give so much to others going through a similar scenario. It gives families a space to express emotion openly about the circumstances they are faced with, it allows them to make memories before their loved one dies, it gives voice to the fact that there is no way to describe the feelings that go with having your family turned upside down. It connects people who have gone through something that nobody should have to, it gives a space to comprehend the unimaginable…the list goes on. My point is that through Cycle 4 Sam, The Sam Roberts Family fund makes a real difference, it makes the horrific journey of having a child in palliative care just that little bit more bearable.

When you take some time to watch the video below and visit www.cycle4sam.com I am sure you would agree with how special this is.

So the task for this week it is pretty simple – please take a few moments to donate to this brilliant cause by visiting www.everydayhero.com.au/event/cycle4sam

Every little bit counts and it would be fabulous if you could share this link with others so that families that are faced with the news that their child is palliative can receive the support that they need.

Every metre of the 1000km ride is in honour of their beautiful boy with the monies raised benefiting others on a similar journey. Marty, Michelle, Lucy, Sam and Charlie – you are all heroes in my book and I wish you and your team safe travels on Cycle4Sam 5.

Bel.
